Lab 12
Redox Titration
Unit 3⏱ 90 minGuided Inquiry
Overview
How can we determine the oxidation state of manganese in a redox titration?
Objectives
- How can we determine the oxidation state of manganese in a redox titration?
- Connect observations to AP Chemistry models and calculations.
⚠️ Wear protective goggles and an apron. Follow your teacher’s safety directions for all chemicals and equipment.
Materials Needed
Procedure
1
Design an experimental procedure that will determine the oxidation state of manganese at the end of each titration with your solution of 10 mL of 0.10 M NaHSO3.
2
You must do at least three titrations for accuracy and take an average.
3
Each titration requires that the NaHSO3 be in acidic solution.
4
Use no more than 2.00 mL of 1.00 M H2SO4 for each 10 mL sample of 0.10 M NaHSO3.
5
You may need to add more water to cover the stir bar.
6
Show your proposed procedure to your teacher before attempting the experiment yourself.
7
Observations (at least 5) Data: Redox Titration Data Create your own data table from the procedure you have designed.
8
Make sure to include a title for this table.
Pre-Lab Questions
1. A measurement or procedural deviation occurs during the experiment.
